When you do this residency, do they pay to get your MPH degree and do you get a stipend while you're studying?

most places do pay for your MPH and you continue to get salary based on level of training (ie pgy-3 gets pgy-3 salary). you do not get an additional stipend.

how competitive it is to get a residency in occupational/preventative medicine, given that there are such few spots available?

although the requirements state that 1 postgraduate yr is required before beginning the occupational medicine/preventative medicine, do most applicants complete a primary care specialty first before applying?

Is it an unwritten rule that occupational/preventative medicine programs accept or strongly prefer applicants that have a completed a primary care residency?

Yeah, I was wondering about this too. My friend is in an IM program because he couldn't get into a combined IM/PM residency. He's thinking about applying to some programs (after his 1st year), but is wondering if he should just go ahead and complete the IM residency. He already has his MPH and knows that he wants to do preventative medicince, but he thinks he might want to come back to clinical medicine one day. Any opinions on what he should do?
