Probably not. Urologists don't do abortions and Ob/Gyn's don't do vasectomies.

sigh, im not that naive. what a crappy reply. my intent was easily interpreted

dude what is this, sdn middle school version? i have a similar thread going elsewhere thats doing better, especially without you there. the implications are probably over your head anyway, lets just put each other on mutual ignore forever.

You must be proud of your other thread.

Anyway, you'd be hard pressed to find a urologist who can survive doing only vasectomies. I couldn't imagine there being a practice who would hire on a urologist who would take no call and only do vasectomies. On that same matter, it would be hard to build a practice from scratch when you only offer vasectomies as the only procedure you do.

No, you cannot.

you urologists are such an affable crowd

Good thing, then, that you won't be joining us.

Is this your other thread?

keep the dog, against all odds. its better to part with a significant other upon going to med school than with a dog

Rock solid.

significant others are overrated. there are plenty of genes in the sea. i guess all the looking at diseased male genitals all day has made you guys a little dreary huh. too bad none of you were able to thoroughly answer my question. verbal skills must not be any of your strong points. mutual ignore please--people, doctors and urologists are in high enough supply to cast aside those who arent useful. you are all a dime a dozen

That is a fantastic attitude.

I am assuming that you are a premed student since you posed a premed question.

Be sure to carry the same attitude during your interviews. You should ace them all! Best wishes!

why the hell is this thread so negative, look i didnt start it ok, i just asked some legitimate questions. ive already been accepted and am waiting on word from some top 20 schools. this thread sucks, i posed a similar one in obgyn that went much more smoothly. im led to believe they are just a lot cooler than you guys. dont lecture me on my attitude and flaunt overt and cliched sarcasm. i asked specific questions, i didnt ask for life lessons or lectures. only a fool would think that i would behave this way in interviews

of course you wouldn't since you apparently realize what an immense ass you really are. but i'm glad your dog still loves you, despite it all. too bad your future peers at "some top 20 school" will have to deal with the displeasure of ignoring you.

all of these personal issues going back and forth are really silly, an outsider would think its a bunch of little kids at the playground. you guys are mostly sdn newbies, what do you know. maybe nobody is seeing that i dont give a damn what any of your personal opinions of me are, so stop bothering to voice them, theyre worthless. what is valuable to me is what you have to say about urology and sterilizations, which is the only area in which any of you have credentials in this context

now is anybody going to actually do a decent job of addressing my original questions? in other words, behave like someone past his teenage years? i swear, im starting to wonder if theres some psychological element to people who choose urology, freudian perhaps

You seem really worked-up. Need a backrub or something?

enough, this trend has to stop. whats your avatar? its unique, had it for long? yes i was somewhat worked up bc nobody was answering my question. still hasnt been answered. did you score above 30 on the mcat?

How do you have 3000 posts and not in med school?

thats exactly why i have so many, i have enough time to make them right now. a lot of premeds do. lengthy, real time convos here and there rack up the posts. also useless threads in the lounge

now, can i make a career out of doing abortions and male and female sterilizations? im not interested much in sicknesses except genetic ones, and that too mostly preventing them

As you know I am not a urologist, but you can make money doing anything but you have to build up a practice and attract patients to maintain a steady income. Plus, if you happen to perfom abortion ona anyone besides visible minorities, you will face lots of angry soccer moms.

To answer your question, I guess you could make a career out of doing abortions and sterilizations. If you are opening your own clinic, I'm sure you could limit the services to whatever you want. Of course, I don't see the logic in attending 4 years of medical school just to perform 2/3 procedures. You are certainly going into the right field if you aren't interested in illnesses...

thanks for addressing my questions. im interested in eliminating genetic problems in the population, whether they be disease, ******ation, or criminal tendencies. anybody read freakonomics? so i view those things as sicknesses, although more from a societal standpoint than the traditional, individual sicknesses such as broken bones and cancers. theres no other way i can perform abortions, sterilizations, and probably IVF too without becoming a doctor. and actually preventing a genetic atrocity from being realized is also a great gift to the victim as well, bc who would want to lead such a cursed life? essentially its pre euthanasia

i see what you mean about the long path to doctorhood--but regardless of how many procedures i perform after that, if i can reap enough money to compensate for those years and debts then i dont see how its not rational. many docs are super specialists in one or a few procedures, usually surgeons. you just have to make up for it with volume, kind of like walmart. but it would be ideal if i could somehow learn only about those 2/3 procedures and disregard the rest, thats what im wondering if its possible. i think its not...which sucks but ill figure it out later, its early

and about building up a practice, im thinking about getting in cahoots with some government to perform subsidized abortions and sterilizations. maybe not in the USA if thats not viewed favorably. perhaps the East. but im passionate about it, i think its important. its not just 4 yrs of med school but its also some residency training afterward...and i dont plan on doing urology+obgyn+genetics residencies

I think this is a great concept to discuss during your residency interviews. It's somewhat of a bold topic in the post-Hitler era, but given your obvious level of intelligence (top 20 med school admission), you'll probably be seen as correct. I think you could provide a great service to humanity by ridding us of a criminal's ability to have children. Why stop there? Might as well sterilize the blacks, jews, and homosexuals...

What an idiot!!!!

I don't really have anything else to add here, but I wanted you all to know this is WAY more interesting than my current post-urology-match-required-rotation in neurology.

It's too bad you weren't born about a hundred years ago. You really would have enjoyed the eugenics movement.

but to address your question I would second the other posts that mention how you can tailor your own practice to include whatever you want. However, success in this requires the obvious....you need to be good enough at what you do, and you also have to make sure your skills are needed to the degree that you want to be compensated.
