Another recommendation question, sorry

What have people who are applying for IM preliminary spots done in terms of recommendations? I have a chairman's letter from my school's internal medicine department, but all of my other recommendations are from people in the field I'm applying to for residency. Do I have to come up with 2 more IM letters? or can I just send 2 of the other letters? any advice/input appreciated -

you should be fine. after all, you're applying for a prelim year.

For the programs that require a chair letter, I'm sending the IM chair and 2 from my specialty. For the programs that don't require a chair letter, I'm sending a much more personalized letter from an IM attending and 2 from my specialty. This way, I've also got it covered for any program that might want 4 letters.
