What schools offer Pre-residency Fellowships in Optho?

Are these the best way to get a better feel for Optho and make yourself a more attractive candidate for the match, or is it better to do unstructured (in the sense that it is not called a "Pre-residency Fellowship") research with a Optho faculty member at your home medical school.

Thanks in advance for your responses.

The pathology pre-residency fellowship at Bascom Palmer with Dr. Dubovy is an unbelievable program. It's intense, but you will come out (after only a year) knowing more than most residents and with support from a very strong faculty.

You should also look at the pre-residency fellowship in pathology at the U of Utah. There's also a pre-residency eye pathology fellow at Iowa this year.

Depending on what you're doing, both the one-year research experience and a pre-residency fellowship can help your application. I think each experience can be valuable and allow you to interact with various ophthalmology faculty.
