I've been studying almost exclusively with EK so I tried the EK nonequilibrium method on this problem. I picked the small mass as my system and set it up like this:
50N + ma = 100N
After solving for a, I came up with the wrong answer. Does anyone know why this didn't work? I know I'm screwing up the tension somehow.
Also, on the next problem (2-25), why isn't the tension 400N?
