Please help me regarding ortho residency

Hey guys,

I am a student of Minnesota dental school. I will graduate in 2012. I am very interested in orthodontic residency program.
I've heard that in some programs such as endo you should have a fair amount of endo experience from private practice(i mean private practice after graduation from dds) to be considered for this program. Is it also true about acceptance in ortho program or not? What other factors should I have to have a competitive application for ortho?
Please share your experience regarding getting into this competitive specialty

Experience is not needed for ortho (and BTW, I think the need for PP, AEGD, GPR to get into endo is overstated).
Minnesota has a great ortho program, so maybe you can spend some time there and get to know some residents.
