Question from a pathologist.

Do OBs perform deliveries in surgical centers? If so where are the placentas sent for for pathologic examination? Do OBsperform deliveries in any other setting other than in a hospital setting?

Placentas are not routinely sent to pathology.
However when they are sent, they go to pathology....like any other tissue specimen.
What do you mean by surgical center? Like an outpatient surgery center? No, babies are born at the hospital. There is a labor and delivery floor or unit with a C/S suite or more.

I don’t know if a single OB who delivers outside the hospital.

I have not heard of deliveries done at surgical centers.

Theoretically an OBGYN could deliver at a birthing center but that's not common. Usually that's a midwife thing. I don't think they are really sending placentas for pathologic assessment.
