hello,

i have not been able to find any websites which give a median of how much docs are making in canada. i want to know how much does an internist make in GTA, toronto area?

if there are any websites which have that kind of information, please share it with me.

No!

What they actually make is fees collected - overhead expsenses.

Net Income = Revenue - Expenses

So that average internist is making 250-300K - whatever their office expenses are (rent, staff, utilities, dues, instruments, supplies, etc.)

thanks.

i thought i already said those numbers were gross and didnt take into account overhead

i never said that that the internist is making 25-300 K POST-TAX.
it was gross amount, and dont take into account the overhead.

the reason i asked is because i am hearing that they can bill upto 400 K, and most of the internists are hospital based and have very little overhead, compared to family docs. if they bill 400 k these days, then they probably take home between 200-250 K after taxes, etc.

is that true?

i dont know why there isnt more independant salary/income data on cdn physicians.

there are many variables at play here. family docs can beill 400K yes even 600K is not unheard of....however, most family docs who are billing that much are working their ASSES off and/or doing things that are not usually withing the scope of urban family practice. I.E they work outside the major city centres where specialists are not as available, and family physicians will do alot of stuff themselves (anaesthesia, birthing, housecalls, etc). If youre tied to a hospital in a major urban centre the or any hospital in general...your overhead will be determined by the policies fo the hospital. some will allow you to use the hospitals resources, but will require you to pay rent for office space, others wont require a dime from you but might require increased call or something like that. it varies so much. also, in hospitals, the spcialties tend to be represented more so that you wont be doing those things that would normally be outside of the scope of your practice (and happen to pay well). but to answer your question yes if they billed 400K and had low overhead, after taxes they could walk home with 200K.
