I browsed through the last few months of messages and couldn't find anything related to PET scans so I decided to post a general query here. I'm surprised more isn't said about this technology. Are there some inherent limitations to the technology which aren't obvious to those not intimitely familiar with it? Is it because fMRI has replaced PET for a lot of the research applicants?

If anyone can give a synopsis of the state of PET and the inevitable PET/MRI it would be appreciated.

Is PET a common technology in private practice (ie, cancer detection and cancer therapy monitoring)? Are PET scans in PP handled by radiologists?

Are the fellowships pretty easy to obtain for radiologists?

PET-CT is one of the hottest modalities right now. PET/MRI is still 5-10 years away from primetime. Most nuclear medicine research is in fusion imaging right now (PET-CT, SPECT/CT)

As a radiologist, it's quite easy to get into a PET/CT fellowship.
