Are there any six figure jobs in the medical field that do NOT require you to go to medical school?

Besides being a nurse, of any kind.
----
Please include at least one alternative career to becoming a physician. If you can, include average salary/income and what education is needed and what the job entails.

This is not intended to be another "who is the highest paid" although it probably will end up becoming one because I mentioned the word salary.

Please do not post if you are going to preach to me about how money is useless because I really don't care and I'm not just asking for the avg. salary, I'm asking what the job actually entails and how long it takes before you start working.

Thanks in advance.

Pharmacy (6 years) Optometry ( Usually 8 years) Podiatry (Usually 8) Dentistry (Usually 8) are the 6 figure jobs in the healthcare field I can think of atm. You will probably find better numbers then what I can offer you, and podiatry is interesting in that you can use MCAT or DAT scores for admission, since I don't think they have their own standardized test.

Audiologist, psychologist, physical therapist and chiropractor are other healthrelated jobs but im not too sure the salary is on par with the ones I just mentioned.

Why no Nursing?

Nurse Practitioners
, Nurse Anesthetists and other advanced nursing degrees make some pretty good cash... Your standard nurse without advanced training will still be making some solid money.

But ok... Physician Assistants are also highly sought after and would make some pretty decent money.

You can click on the wiki links to read more about the jobs.

You really shouldn't pick a career based solely on income...do something you love to do. Being rich would not be any fun if every day you went to work you were miserable.

READ THE POST.

Sorry, I'm not trying to be a jerk but I clearly stated that I do not want any replies like this.

Read my blog as well. If I did not want a career in health care, trust me, I would not waste my time on these forums.

Maygyver, great advise, i havent heard that before.
Sidenote*Caesar, that letmegooglethatforyou made me lol.

Mobile illicit pharmaceutical distribution agents can make very good money. I've also taken an interest to becoming a professional poker player. You can make millions of dollars in a matter of days. Actors, professional sports players, illegal arms dealers, and hedge fund managers all make much more money than anyone in medicine. I've been looking into it.

An alternative health care field that you can earn a very decent living at is getting into Chiropractic. Typically you start out in the 60k-70k range but with icentives and bonus's, earn over 100k a year to start... This field of healthcare is very different and so I advise you to look into it before jumping in...

I'm thinking about becoming the manager of a big casino myself.

Or maybe being a rock star.

Hmmm...

I don't think he was being sarcastic.

At least I wasn't.

It is definitely something to consider.

Are you serious?

Don't forget prostitution.

ahahaha.

Sorry for derailing your thread Jeff.

On a more serious note, check out cRNAs or Anesthesiologist Assistants. They make a pretty paycheck and aren't your typical nurse.

Vets, Respiratory therapist(not sure) and Strength and Conditioning specialist(not sure either).

You'll notice a common theme among most of the richest men and women in the world - they own their own business. That's all there is to it.

Yes, I know. I want to be comfortable, not rich. I don't want to take that much risk.

Oooh, be a millionaire. I hear they make some good money.

That's a decent amount now, but will it be much in 20 years?

100k was probably insane back in the 70's and 80's. Now? Haha.

For a SINGLE person, 100k is actually very comfortable.

It isn't that hard to become a millionaire, ex. accumulate over 1M over an ENTIRE career. Then again, I guess it depends on what you do.

Fine. If your that much of a hater, just become a billionaire.

*Warning* Your about to loose a point on account of hate.

Lol! This actually made me laugh. Nah, I wasn't hatin'. I was just saying it isn't that difficult to accumulate that figure over a certain period of time over the course of a career.

Nooooo I don't want to lose a point. How do I redeem myself?!?!?!

Join Girls on Boat Inc, which are started by Tennisball80 and Local. High paying, excellent benitifits, and hot girls on the boats.

Very funny. I actually don't want to be a doctor anymore, I think I'll just be single my entire life and work as a CPA in NYC.

I am still going to volunteer because I enjoy doing that but not much else. Caddying is starting up again so I'm going to be doing that.

I didn't mean salary wise. I meant total estate wise.

A millionaire isn't someone who makes a million bucks a year.

I just meant 100k was a lot back in the 70's and 80's, definitely enough for most people to retire on. Now people are living a lot longer than they expected and 100k isn't worth squat, and now they gotta get jobs at walmart at 80 to support themselves.

Who's to say a million won't be the same way in 20-30 years? How long will we be able to live in 70 years?

Podiatry nowadays require a 3-year residency (the 2 year residencies are being phased out), after Pod school. The other careers you listed above also provide the option of specialization via residency and fellowship. For example, within pharmacy, there is clinical pharmacy (peds, oncology, etc...)

It's also probably a lot less than you're envisioning, especially at first. There would be plenty of debt to pay down, even if you're not a doctor - student loans, mortgage, car loan, maybe even some credit card debt from college, etc. Plus, your new house will need to be furnished and repaired, blah blah blah. My brother and sister-in-law are pulling well into the six figures, but they're still getting hammered with tons of bills associated with buying a new house, getting married, having their first kid in a few months, etc.

It'd be comfortable for someone coming from a lot less.

For someone that's always lived a posh lifestyle, yea it'll be a rude awakening.

Become an alien and use your super powers to rob banks and make a ton.

You don't do that all at once. No wonder they are getting hammered with bills.

Edit: and I said for a SINGLE person.

It depends on where you live. 100k gets you jack in San Francisco and Manhattan even if you're single. However, 100k will probably let a family live a very cushy life in Montana, Iowa, the Dakotas, etc.

There are huge discrepancies in cost of living in this country. The best life plan in my opinion is to work somewhere with a good economy (and therefore better salaries despite much high cost of living) and retire somewhere with no economy where your money goes much farther.

And I don't know why you're so obsessed with careers in health care. I've already listed many careers that will allow you to maintain a nice livestyle. It's not that hard to save for retirement. Heck, I'm not even 30 and I've got six digits of savings in my 401k and Roth. My annual income has never broken six digits either.

I know plenty of people who have done that all at once...Why shouldn;t they? Apparently you are an expert on everything grown-up. In most places in the US, 100k is good enough for a family if you are smart with your money.

If you really want the chance to make money, I would look outside of the health/medical fields. Even if you are able to make a decent living in podiatry, dentistry, medicine, etc.. ultimately, your earning potential is limited.

As for some other medical related jobs... if you are good at, and enjoy physics, you could go into medical physics. PhD's will almost certainly make over 100 grand, and even with a masters you will approach, if not go over, 100k.

life happens. it'll surprise you when it does.

True. Just saying.

But, whoa Prowler. What exactly does this person do that makes "well into the six figures"?

And since when is 100k not a lot? I believe I was told by a great number of people that 100k is very comfortble.

50% of pregnancies are unplanned. Plan accordingly.

She's an Internet social media consultant currently managing WeightWatchers' online forums.

 Go back and read my last post.

Jeff, any reasons that you want to be single at your entire life ? Is it because girls cost money ? (You don't have to share if you feel the question is too personal :) )
