Hi everyone!
I was wondering if oral maxillofacial pathology residency is a good choice financially or what kind of future the profession has? Or even what does a pathologist do exactly other than doing tests and diagnosing lesions? :unsure:I tried looking through the forums but I wasn't able to find anything. It almost seems like no one is talking about it as a specialty so I was wondering. (Also if you guys know of a forum, I would greatly appreciate it if you would let me know).

Thanks!

Hi! Oral Pathologist here.

For a slice of what we do: check out my youtube! https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCJYv2qQAEKcJVbdPPsTRGFw

The job market can be tight but usually works out if you're patient. Many residencies pay. There are about 11 residencies in the U.S. and all of them have pros and cons- if you apply you'll want to find one that is the right "fit" for you. The best way to go about figuring that out is to try to visit as many as possible to see what the program is like. This will become easier as more programs start opening up for visitors with covid restrictions lightening.

I'm incredibly happy. I love my job. It was an amazing fit for me.

Hi!
Can you tell me what kind of job one might find after doing residency in Oral pathology? Is academics the only option? Also is it mandatory do PhD to get into academics or research? Thanks
