I read the note of an optho resident who sent his note to an O.D. who staffed the patient with him and co-signed his note. Is this common?

We spend some time learning about contact lenses from our awesome optometrists, but otherwise they do not staff any of our other clinics.

what were the details? If this was at the VA, they sometimes mislabel ophthalmologists as optometrist. And it said O.D. not DO after the name?.. sometimes I've been confused by that. But otherwise, absolutely none of our ophtho residents are being staffed by optoms, even at the VA (this is not allowed at any VA as far as I know).... or actually even in our contact lens clinic (although I'd have no qualms with some optoms teaching the ophtho residents, or even myself, about contact lenses or refractions).
