Hello Everyone,

I apologize if this has been addressed but it's been a tough couple days and I could use some advice.

I have a very strong academic history but I am now being forced to consider withdrawing this term due to my wife's current health situation. We have children and she has had to go to the ER twice this month due to issues managing her condition along with multiple other days where she has been too ill to get out of bed. I have managed to barley keep my head above water despite this. Unfortunately, they found what they believe to be 2 benign masses that are going to need surgery to correct. The specialist is out of state and I will almost certainly need to miss classes to be with her for the surgery. I will be honest and say I am freaking out. Beyond the stress of trying to stay perfect for my dental school app, I am worried about my wife and family and just don't know what to do.

I am going to request my school allow me an Involuntary Withdraw but I am unsure how that will show up on my transcript and if not approved I will have 2 Ws on my transcript this semester. I have my pre-reqs completed so it's not like I will be hurting myself there, but I am worried about the two W's. Does my inability to manage my classes in spite of my wife's illness mean I am not cut out for dental school? Should I plow through even if it means my GPA takes a beating and I under perform in classes I would normally be able to pull A's in?

I am just maxed out right now with stress and could use advice from anyone with experience in these things.

Thank you.

your family is more important
just take the Ws and take care of business
explain what happened, and trust the process
many people have Ws for far less valid reasons and still get into d school...

Thanks, macsak. In my heart I know you're right. Just having hard time accepting it in my current state of mind. I appreciate the advice and am going to do what's best for my family.
