What combination of letters is best?

1) Medicine, Ophtho (clinical rotation at home), Ophtho (research advisor)

2) Medicine, Pediatrics, Ophtho (research advisor)

**i didn't work too closely with the ophthalmologist from my clinical rotation; i worked mostly with residents -- however, she did write a nice letter for me for away-rotation apps. my peds attending knows me better.

Anyone who has matched or is an ophthalmologist have any opinions?

The advice i was given was that as a non-PhD, you should optimally get one ophtho research letter, one clinically oriented ophtho letter, and one clinical med/surg letter. If you're a PhD, then instead of the ophtho research letter, a research letter from your advisor is optimal.

Again, this is just what i was "advised," i'm sure there are many exceptions out there.
