Hey so I know that OMS can do their own anesthesia, but during big OR cases do they ever have Anesthesiologists doing it for them? I mean things like H/N cancer cases or big jaw reconstructions, big facial traumas, etc.

OMFS never does their own anesthesia in the OR. They typically run their own anesthesia for MAC cases in the office setting.

As mentioned, OR procedures in a surgery center or hospital are managed by anesthesia providers (MD/DO anesthesiologists, nurse anesthetists (CRNA), etc).

OMS do their own sedations in an outpatient setting where they practice the team based model for ambulatory anesthetics. Some OMS opt to have an outside provider, as mentioned above, be the dedicated anesthesia provider for longer cases such as full arch rehab or other office based procedures.
