I just sent you a PM. Alternatively, you could post a link to a google doc with them in it here.
Thanks.
I can't figure out how to attach the documents in the message (is that possible?). Posting it here since it's pretty much just generic travel info to Baylor and Houston.
Congrats to all the SDNers getting amazing interviews. Just curious to the stats of those of you getting the crazy interviews at the top places in the country? Do you all have 260s/270s + AOA + all 3rd year honors +a bazillion publications + you found the cure for cancer.... you know .... the usual hoops to jump through
edit: getting nervous that the Boston programs have sent out first wave on Friday, unlikely they will be giving out a lot more interviews...

There is nothing incredible extraordinary about my application. More than statistics, I think that schools are more interested in the story your application tells and how each part (letters, personal statement, experiences) adds to it. Just my $0.02 - feel very fortunate and humbled to be in position I find myself in.
Hello: I just led wanted to check in and see if people have started canceling some of their interviews? When is the best time to start doing this?
Thanks!!!
Thanks! My magic number was 14. I started canceling after that.
Thanks!
I cut down to 12 now. I'm still waitlisted on interview broker for 3 programs. Wonder if and when they open up?
Was thinking about cancelling some of my back-ups, then remembered I have CK in a week. Maaaaybe my back-ups will become my reaches.
With the peak of invites in October, I'll update the list with my invites thus far in case it's any use for future MS4's. I'll only add if there's no existing entry on the date already.
UTSW (9/16), Mayo (9/19). UT Houston (9/20), WashU (9/23), UCSD (9/29), Duke (9/30), Vanderbilt (10/3), UColorado (10/7), JHH Osler (10/12), Stanford (10/12), UNC (10/13), Columbia (10/14), BCM (10/14), Michigan (10/17), Northwestern (10/17), UWashington (10/17), UChicago (10/18), UCSF (10/18), MGH (10/21)
Best of luck and hope everyone has fun during the interview season!

. Seems the best way to help fix this problem is to choose the ones you want and cancel on the ones you dont. No one will care about your step 2ck scores as you already sent your application. The new match data shows that AMGs match to there top 4 places >80% of the time.

As an IMG, you're not getting one of those "Top 10" invites, period.Looking at this forum thread I get the feeling that ppl overapplied. As an IMG, I am lucky with 15+ interviews, but I would trade most of them for just 1 or 2 of these invites. I have 250 and 260's on all 3 Steps along a strong CV but have yet to have an interview from an "elite" or large medical center. On the IMG forums ppl are already freaking... Ppl with amazing credentials with 1, 2 or no interviews!!! I will be canceling my extra interviews to help others to get interviews so they may possibly match. I will admit I'm one of the people who needs to be canceling interviews. That being said, despite most AMGs matching to one of their top programs, it's going to be a hard sell to get people to cancel down to fewer than 10 interviews -- the "magic number" to have >90% chance of matching in IM is ~11 programs, according to Charting Outcomes 2016.
As an IMG, you're not getting one of those "Top 10" invites, period.
But that's OK, you've got more than enough interviews, and you'll be fine.
From what I've seen, AOA is kind of a trump card when it comes to IM applications. It's seriously hard to get an interview at top 5 programs without it. The people who DID manage to pull that off are the ones who probably cured cancer
Med school names matter (unfortunately), but tacking on something like AOA or a PhD (or other extensive research experience) can overcome that, even coming from a Bottom 40 school...like I did.Who has a better chance at one of the elite programs - the 50th%tile at a top 10 medical school with a 240, or AOA at a top 50 with a 260? Or 25th%tile at a top 25 vs 10th %tile at a top 40? Based on my very limited personal experiences and the stuff posted in these forums, I'd bet the former in both cases. 'Elite' reputation seems to be the biggest trump card, which I find unsurprising, but still a little sad. But it serves as a reminder that there are great minds everywhere.
Based on my SDN-stalking (which I did to make me feel better about not getting some of the interviews they got), these guys do have amazing stats, despite their humility:
Matteo - top school, step >250, AOA, research year/multiple pubs
Elixir - top school, step > 265, AOA/GHHS/#1 in class/all Hs
La2La - step >250, AOA, PhD
Casa - ??

Really, though, it's what Matteo said: my story worked for me.
My recommenders knew me well and offered to write excellent, personal LORs for me-- and I mean they actually knew me. I could return in 4 years and they would still know who I am. I think more important than my scores was the fact that I also did a ton of leadership projects with my community, some of which I initiated and directed (not just being leader of an interest group, but something that required funding, applications and organization, etc, with a published outcome).
Or they threw our applications down a flight of stairs and I just got lucky. Idk.
I didn't read/see the original. But, I tend to be very sarcastic. I apologize if I've been picking on you, crossed the line, or offended you in anyway (wouldn't be the first time I've been guilty of that). I really couldn't be happier with what everyone is getting and pretty much just like associating with you very smart peeps. But I also really enjoy making you into a larger than life mythical creature.

Kind of a small fish in big pond, big fish in small pond analogy.
Thats legitimate, but IMO only half of it. Case in point - a private school in my hometown that is "Top 25" and matches people into the Harvard programs every year. The "Top 40" state school that costs $100k less probably matches every 3-4 years. Lots of my pre med classmates chose public over private for cost reasons, and from my personal experience the student body is similarly smart and competitive. The only difference is the name, but the fact is that there's a lot of inbred elitism in the ivory tower. Again, nothing new.
Anyone know the likelihood of getting an interview off the waitlist? Just curious because I thought waitlist was only for medical school admission
The PD at my program said, "everyone who waitlists you will interview you in January." But I don't know if too many people are gonna be cancelling their elite interviews. S/he also said I would easily get interviews at Duke, Mayo, Penn, Chicago, etc out of the gate (and I haven't, and I won't).
I've wondered the same thing. I can add one data point: I'm at a top-10 med school with a 260, not AOA, but top 50%. Got some great interviews (Penn, Columbia, Stanford) but none from the top-top-top (UCSF, JHH, MGH, BWH).Who has a better chance at one of the elite programs - the 50th%tile at a top 10 medical school with a 240, or AOA at a top 50 with a 260? I think the top-10 school definitely matters. I'm at a top 40 school with a 249 step 1, 262 step 2, and AOA and I didn't get any of the "top-top-top." Similar to @newyorkcitymed I got some great interviews (WashU, Emory, Yale), but I think in order to get those top-top-top I would need 265+ or to go to a top-10 school.I've wondered the same thing. Haha this is fair. But you all also seem very humble and I think that, while there may be a few others posting here with similar stats (that didn't get the same quality interviews, ie crapshoot), it's probably also true that your bare-bones stats are better than the majority of people posting in this thread. So even if it is somewhat of a crapshoot, you clearly worked hard and it paid off! Congratulations!!

soo is there second wave or we done?
