Question to anyone/everyone who has gotten rejections: Were you sent rejection letters unprompted, or were you given denials only after you inquired about your application status?

I e-mailed UCSD to ask about status and they just said all of their interview spots were full with wait lists for each date, and weren't planning on issuing any more invitations.

Ugh... formatting was lost a few posts back but I'm too lazy to attempt to correct it.

UCSF sent me an email today telling me I'm on their wait-list. Not technically rejected. I thought that was nice of them, instead of leaving me in limbo.

It is better to get outright rejected from UCSF than to get wait listed.

Why? Lets assume in January someone cancels an interview. They yank you from the wait list and invite you to fill that spot.

You are obviously way down on their list of candidates. You will have wasted time and money on travel, hotel, a day of your life, etc. In addition you have false hopes of matching there.

The reality is that if they rank you toward the back of their rank list, you have no realistic possibility of going there. Think of how many of their interviewees will be ranking them number one or number 2. No way you match there.

That being said you just wasted $$$$$ on travel and time for nothing and no realistic chance of walking the hallowed halls of UCSF.

Just outright reject me.....please.

totally agree with you! i got waitlisted today at ucsf... a rejection would've been more humane.

Waitlisted is definitely better. I know for a fact that they sometimes re-consider even people who were rejected. Waitlisted surely has to be better than outright rejected.

Besides, flying into San Francisco is probably cheaper than some of the flights I'm now taking to middle of nowhere New Hampshire and middle of nowhere North Carolina.

If it makes you feel better........but that is all it will do....

How far down on UCSF's rank list do you think they go until they get their intern class? Not too far, certainly not where they will rank someone who they didn't feel was worthy enough for them to interview the first time they reviewed your app and threw you into the "wait list" box.

On that note, does anyone know the status at Detroit Wayne State? I see rejections in this thread but no one listed as reaching invites from them on the interview thread. Have they sent out interviews?

Reason I am asking is because the RC Ms. Lee is supposedly gone until Oct. 29 when I have called their, and my girlfriend was given an IV for OB-GYN there so I was just wondering, thanks for the comment
