Odds of getting an interview

So last year I interviewed and was waitlisted at Tufts and ultimately didn't get in. Has anyone ever gotten this far the first time and then not received an interview the second time around? Last year I went through the whole why did I get waitlisted interview and worked on the things they told me to work on, but I'm still nervous. I know the application pool is always different so I'm just curious if this has ever happened to someone.
