FA says somatostatin analogues like octeotride are used for symptom control in somatostatinomas?

how?

This mechanism is poorly understood and there does not appear to be any large studies given the rarity of disease. Octreotide (somatostatin analogue) has shown to have an inhibitory effect and actually decrease circulating levels of somatostatin in patients with somatostatinomas. The somatostatinomas were found to have functioning somatostatin receptors which allows octreotide to bind and inhibit the tumors secretion of somatostatin. (The way I think about it is that octreotide may have a higher affinity for the receptor than native somatostatin otherwise you would expect a negative feedback effect from the native somatostatin produced by the tumor).
