Observorship in canada

Does anyone know if canada has any observorship? If yes, will it be hard for IMG's (canadian citizen) to get in? Requirements? Thanks!

Observorship is more of like working as a Physician Assistant but without pay. It is more of observing a physicain at work and helping along the way in order to gain knowledge of the practice of medicine in Canada or the US. IMG's usually would do such observorship in order to have some north american experience which helps a long way if you want a residency in especailly Canada since the residency spots are so comepitive. Observorship usually last for about a month or two. IMG's especially in Canada have used that to gain the competitive advantage over others in applying for residencies.

Yes you can do observorships in Canada. There is no formal organization for it. Some provinces like BC wight require for you to have an educational licence. In Ontario there is no licence. To get an observorship, you just have to go knocking on the doors of physicians and pray that one will be willing to have you shadow him for a month. I remember some years ago, some hospitals in Ontario were charging $1000 a month for this. Not sure if there are still doing it.

Thanks! So you're saying that it is NOT possible to do an observorship w/o a Canadian medical license in BC? Damn! So Ontario is my only option?

I found asking your friend's parents help or own family if they are GPs or specialists.

Exactly as written by shetland. You can do that in BC. The license is just paper work. What you really need whether in Ontario or BC or any of the other provinces is a physician willing to take you on as an observor.
