I actually like the health system in Australia. My family experience was that these delays are real. Family member waited a long time for a cataract surgery. Had a complication that required reoperation and went to the back of the line and waited again. Getting him a cardiologist was also impossible and he obviously needed a pacemaker. He had plenty of money and could have driven an hour south and got it done but he had way too much pride in the superior Canadian system to consider that. So…not sure it’s all marketing and I only have anecdotes but I do have a few more about other relatives and cancer care delays etc.
Everyone gets a public option insurance that is accepted at public hospitals and clinics. There is also private insurance available for purchase that can be used at Private hospitals and clinics.
Everybody gets baseline care, those that want more can purchase private insurance, or can receive it as a benefit from work.
