I found this table interesting. Look at all the people choosing Anesthesia. 904 in 2002 versus 169 in 1996. Look at all the Osteopaths getting anesthesia in the match versus IMGs which are remaining flat.

Anesthesia continues to be popular for DOs. See the newsletter below 126 DOs matched into allopathic anesthesia in 2003.

Almost 9 per Osteopathic school on average. This is versus 89 in 2002 and only 7 in 1997!

If you browse the international forum you will notice that it is not easy for an international grad to get anesthesia.

First, it's about 6.6 per school, not 9 according to my math, but the difference in class sizes makes averages a meaningless statistic anyway. If 126 matched totally, NYCOM has about 20% of those. They had 26 I heard, a partial list below:

Anesthesia: (26 total!)
Cleveland Clinic
Einstein, NY (3)
Univ of Chicago
Univ of Wisconsin
Yale
NYU
Suny Downstate (5)
Maimonides, NY
Metroheath, OH
Temple, Philadelphia, PA
Univ of Mass, MA
UConn, CT
Univ Buffalo, NY
Metrohealth Med Ctr (OH)
SUNY Stony Brook, NY
Westchester Med Ctr, NY

Yeah 126 anesthesia matches divided by 19 schools is 6.6 per school.

Gotta get my calculator fixed! ;) Still if you want anesthesia you are probably far better off as a DO than an FMG.
