OK - checking the radar on this one.
I'm an M4 (in 1 week anyway). I'm interested in a program (actually for fellowship, not for residency) and they know this. My mentor really wants me to go visit this program during my 4th year. I'm on the fence -

Pros:
-get more info on the fellowship/career in general
- happiness of the person who wants me to go (and who will hopefully write me a nice letter)
- i'm scheduling it during my 'research' block - so i will be getting credit for something at my school
- good exposure to some research that's not offered at my school
- get to to know some folks where i will possibly apply for fellowship in ~4 yrs

Cons:
- $$
- not for credit at the location of the away rotation
- away from home for more time
- potentially during interview season

Thoughts? Comments? I could use some extra opinions either way. THanks!

my initial gut reaction? spend your time working on getting into residency for now, that seems like it should be your biggest goal at this point... but then again if you've already gotten rotations set up at your residency hopeful spots and you have the time in your schedule, and you can get "credit" anyway then why the heck not go...
