Hello all,
I was wondering if someone could help me out. While studying, I had a question regarding hospital inpatient prescriptions transmitted via fax. According to rules, orders for CIIs transmitted through fax shall serve as the original written medication order for drugs that are used for direct administration to patients by parenteral, IV,IM,SC, or intraspinal infusion. The law also says that all inpatient medication orders including Schedule II orders can be transmitted through fax.
So my question is: what about CII's that are administered PO? Would the fax not serve as the original then and would a written prescription be needed to serve as the original? (Anyone working at a hospital please tell me what happens at ur hospital)
