I have very limited internet access while deployed (Navy). A 56k modem split among 30+ computers is very slow. Larger ships have greater internet capability and can use uptodate, emedicine or other online resources. I can't speak for the green side navy docs, as they are in a very different environment.

CD-ROM/textbooks are available as "open purchase" items for your department prior to deployment. Buy what you think you may want or need far in advance of a deployment. Your CO should be very understanding when you request money to spend on medical literature to keep your library current.

Ahhh...the magic of SPAWAR. Ships didn't go NMCI did they...
