neurology research ok?

Hi, I recently found an interesting research opportunity in neurology. It does not remotely involve neurosurgery. As far as matching into neurosurgery, is something of this nature reasonable, or would it truly make a difference for me to find a neurosurgery project instead? This is a project I will be doing concomitantly with my third year classes.

If a resident or someone with insight into the selection process could give me some insights, I would appreciate it.
