There are two ways to go about entering a plastic residency. The traditional route is that you apply to and complete (at least) three years of a general surgery residency and then apply to an independent plastics program. There are also the integrated/combined routes where one can apply directly out of medical school, or in your case, even after practicing as an internist. I believe you would apply to these integrated/combined programs the same way any current medical student would.

As far as plastics programs not in the U.S. I have no idea. Hope that helps.

I recommend looking around at plasticseducation.com for more info. There is a great guide there to download.

Dear Cumi.

You are in wrong place asking a wrong question. This forum is dedicated to the US residency training.....

As to your question..... about being a surgeon then plastic surgeon, as a person who worked on 3 different continents of our planet, I can tell you if you want to become a really serious plastic surgeon you got to spend some time in General surgery ( at least 2-3 years, not less not more, but cleanning up the ****).

That is the system of more or less civilized countries like US, UK, Australia, Canada etc, where after all you can graduate as a competent professional.

Otherwise, if you just want to be called a plastic surgeon, you can go to Eastern Europe or some other developing countries, where you can spend 2 years in "plastic surgery" training and get your paper that you can hang on the wall. The question then will be ...............................
