i will be graduating in less than 5 months, i would rather not say the school but it is one of the 2 chicago schools. i would like to know what everyone's opinion is about how uic is perceived as a better more prestigious school than midwestern. i have heard from several uic students that they view midwestern as students who have no buisness doing pharmacy and that many of their applicants have gotten in with less than 40 on their pcat. uic students always seem to carry around this attitude as if they are smarter because they go to uic and midwestern student always seem ashmaed to admmit they go to midwestern. i happen to believe and know uic is obviusly a better school because it has been around much longer. however, is it true that midwestern students are all therre because they couln't get into uic? please tell me your thoughts tonight thank you .

Troll....

This is an absolutely ridiculous question. I am not ashamed to be a graduate of MWU. It is a great school with a good reputation. I can tell you must go to UIC because MWU graduates in about 6 weeks. If you think you are going to be a better pharmacist because you went to UIC...you are sadly mistaken. You become a good pharmacist by the way you practice.

troll (n.)
"ugly dwarf or giant," 1616, from O.N. troll "giant, fiend, demon." Some speculate that it originally meant "creature that walks clumsily," and derives from P.Gmc. *truzlan, from *truzlanan (see troll (v.)). But it seems to have been a general supernatural word, cf. Swed. trolla "to charm, bewitch;" O.N. trolldomr "witchcra

I AM NOT SURE HOW U CAN CALL ME AN UGLY GIANT. LOL I AM ACTUALLY VERY PETITE AND CUTE. A PAKISTANI GODNESS. BUT thats fine whatever. my husband is a doctor and like we say in pakistan the goodlookiing girls marry the docs, the ugly wons must wear the smocs lol.

this is just a saying please dont post comments about how you are a female professiional and you dont need a men blah blah blah

Um hun, it's godess. It should also be that the ugly ONES, not wons.

Its so funny how you always have to throw in how your husband is a doctor.

oh is that a sensitive topic for you?? the doctor thing? or the ugly thing?

also there is no need to correct my english i am a 22 year old pakistani female i came here when i just turned 16 and will have my degree in less than 5 months. english is my second language and i am married to a pakistani dermatologist. you said i mention this all the time, (is the marriage part a sensitive issue for you, or is it the fact that he is a specialist?) anyway.. i noticed you r pre pharm i hope you have already been accepted because as you already know its really competiveive and my cousins are coming from pakistan to compete for your seat in chicago and la, study hard :O)

and just another amazing thing, i am by far the youngest in my class, a lot of the girls are in there late 20's,

dont you feel like if you are 28 when you graduate its time to have children and then stay home with your children, its not a time to start a career is it? a lot of the american girls at my school have no clue about life. let me tell you something, you should get married before going to pharm school, because ifyou think you r going to meet someone in pharm school you r sadly mistaken, there are like 30 guys in my class, half of those are already married, the other half are not so "goodlooking" they by 30 you have to have at least 1-2 kids by then. dont think you can wait until 33 to start having kids NOT going to happen.

This just cracks me up. Why does it matter which school is better. It's not like you're trying to get into a pharmacy school. For God's sake, you're getting out of one in 5 months. Aren't you supposed to be studying for your NAPLEX or "hanging out" with your hubby?

my husband is a dermatologist and he is in dubai right now visiting family. as for the naplex, are you kidding me. who needs 5 months to prepare for an exam for which there is a 90% pass rate.

i am on rotations and as most pharmacy student know, these are almost a complete waste of time, especially for students like my self woh obviously know more than the preceptor.

I don't want to get married, and my life is going just fine (plus or minus things that are out of my control). For whatever reason, many women believe this:
they have to have a man in order to feel complete
they have to be married
Whatever... Those are the same women that drive around in minivans, wear tight, unflattering clothes because they gave up on their figures after getting married and having children (What do they have to work for?), and get jealous of women who are free from "mothering" children and a husband.

I like children, but I don't want any of my own. In America, women do not have to have children(or a marriage) to be considered successful. Seriously, how I am suppose to travel the world on vacation if I'm wearing a fanny pack(unfashionable) and a diaper bag? That would not be posh!

Regarding that goddess comment, people stare at me all day long- my aunt says that I have "grace". When people stare, it makes me feel uncomfortable, not confident. I was raised to believe that no person is better than another person and that people are simply different (I have a strong-willed mother).
Genuine humility(def.- the absence of any feelings of being better than others) is rare, and men will pick up on that.
I'm not sure if you're Muslim, but all of the women that I have met who are Pakistani are also Muslim. So... maybe you could learn how to be more humble, because that trait is transcendent, uncommon, and prized, especially in Islamic cultures- http://www.islaam.com/Article.aspx?id=433

As for your topic, it doesn't really matter what people think about pharmacy schools if they are comparing accredited programs. I go to school in Louisiana, and the school that I go to has one more year of accreditation, as compared to the other school. Therefore, I think that I am going to a "better" program, because it was given an additional year of accreditation; that's the only reasoning behind my opinion. My school was missing the IPPE component, which was due to one of the most expensive natural disasters in American history- Hurricane Katrina. Therefore, they were only given two years of accreditation in 2006, but that will be resolved, because we have the IPPE component in place.
Both schools, Midwestern and UIC, were given the maximum number of years upon reaccreditation, so they're "equal". http://www.acpe-accredit.org/students/programs.asp#il

I have to go study now, even though I woke up two hours early due to insomnia. I'll need a nap later...

PS- I've heard that they have nice furniture in Dubai.

doesn't matter what school you go to, pass the naplex and everyone is the same. doesn't matter what school you go to, being an elitist snob is a personal choice.

at least midwestern has a school that hasn't gone up in flames lately...
We aren't called the Flames for nothing.

Don't you have this discussion before you start pharmacy school? I know of many people who get accepted into both schools, and make their decision by April.
In class with someone whose husband is in Midwestern, we just had a discussion about the differences between the two programs.
UIC did just get reaccredited, for some reason, they haven't updated the ACPE page. UIC COP does care about grammar skills, and they will make you write an essay during your interview. They don't care what you write, but how you write it.
UIC graduates in early May, so about 3 months from now. You can't be a UIC student, either. They tell you your graduation date during P-3 year, it's no secret. I already know my date: Monday, May 11, 2009.

You guys....seriously ignore this person. I am currently a 4th year at UIC and there is NO ONE in our class that matches this person's description. It is a troll. And for the record, UIC student's do not view themselves as better than anybody and I certainly don't look down on Midwestern students. Hell, I almost went there myself. And the biggest reason I didn't was the cost difference.

And please...leave the jokes about our building burning out of this. Just because someone makes a thread trolling, doesn't mean you should stoop to their level. Don't fall for the bait.

You mean you don't have a "godness" in your class?!?

Glad no one was hurt in the fire though! Good luck with classes next week.

This is the true irony of that fire. The building was put up in the 1950s, and so, it does not have sprinklers. A few years ago, the college asked the university if they could add sprinklers. The university has been retrofitting a number of the buildings for sprinkler systems. The university said no, it would cost too much. The estimate of the damage is over $20 million, from what I heard from one of the professors. The university is going to have to eat most of that cost.
The good thing, since the fire did start in a lab, was that there was no explosion. First, the college is right next to the hospital. Secondly, if there was an explosion, the building probably would have been condemned.

haha, i found this forum kinda rhetorical. she knows the answer to the question she is asking, and she just wastes our times of trying to give her an answer so she can belittle (lack of a better word) you with.

The problem or perception you raise is not uncommon in regions with multiple pharmacy schools.

In Philadelphia, I witnessed some of this behavior and am embarassed to say I was part of it for a brief period of time.

The reality is candidates for post graduate postions are interviewed as INDIVIDUALS! It matters what YOU did in school to distinguish yourself not what the reputation of the school was. Honestly, that opinion will vary from person to person who is in the hiring role. This is why I put out an e-mail to the class every year offering to direct students in writing review articles and research projects. I give a student every opportunity to work hard and be behind them every step of the way.
