Clinical Research Fellowship
Northern California Melanoma Center
St. Mary's Medical Center
San Francisco, CA

We offer a full-time paid position as Melanoma Fellow, to begin July 2014. The fellow will become a member of the team caring for patients with melanoma, with a strong emphasis on clinical research. The Northern California Melanoma Center, located in San Francisco, CA, participated in the clinical trials that led to the 2011 approval of 2 new first-in-kind drugs for melanoma: ipilimumab and vemurafenib. The center has several ongoing trials that may lead to further advances in melanoma therapy.

The fellow will take new patient histories and perform physical exams, review patients' pathology, laboratory, and imaging results, and present a summary of findings to the Northern California Melanoma Center consulting panel. The panel meets weekly and is composed of specialists involved in the care of melanoma patients (medical oncologists, radiation oncologists, immunologists, oncologic surgeons, dermatologists, and integrative medicine consultants). The fellow will also perform follow-up exams and patient presentations.

The fellow will become a sub-investigator on clinical trials being conducted at the center, and help prepare manuscripts reporting the results of trials. The fellow will also attend the weekly melanoma tumor board at University of California San Francisco Medical Center.

For physicians interested in dermatology residency, this fellowship will provide research experience and enhance understanding of melanoma. Previous fellows have matched successfully. It is also appropriate for an individual who wants to pursue a position in clinical research, either in academia or industry. It is appropriate for physicians interested in oncology and the compassionate care of patients with cancer.

The fellowship will commence July 1, 2014 and end June 30, 2015.

This position requires an active California medical license by July 1, 2014. Interested candidates should submit a brief cover letter and CV to: [email protected], phone 415-750-5660. Thank you.
