Minutes
2:30 PM
Arrival at the Marriott Rancho Cordova in Sacramento..
3:30 PM
Ariane Terlet the chair of the board called to order to begin the session. The purpose of this meeting was to talk about the status and consideration of the current legislation. They talk about several bills including the AB1467. They said that this bill is at the Senator?s desk waiting for some amendments to be done to continue with the process. They mention that the number of exams offer per year would be two, unless they receive founds from the Governor. All those amendments are suppose to be settle during the meeting that the Board and the authors of the bill will have in Sacramento on Monday, February 2nd. If everything goes well in this meeting, the AB 1467 will be at the governor?s desk by the middle of February. They seemed very optimistic about the whole process and expect the bill to be signed by the end of February.
5:30PM
The meeting was open to the public so we were able to make some questions. Gabriela asked the committee to talk about the amendments that they were asking for. They were not clear about those amendments but apparently they are the same changes they made last year with the addition of the new dates for submitting the applications. Gabriela also asked about some changes in the requirements of the Restorative Technique Examination The Ariane Terlet responded that the Dental Board is proposing to change the Wax up and Model part of the exam to a Composite part. In this case the applicant would restore one or more Class II, III, or IV composite restorations on an Ivorine or natural tooth. The reason for this change is to make this part of the exam easier to control and fairer for the applicant. This change is going to be review in the up coming meeting of the Board in March. If the Board approves the change and the bill is signed the future exams will have this new requirement.
6:00 PM the meeting adjourned.
We had the chance to talk to Ariane Terlet Chair of the Dental Board and Linda Madden the Legislation and Regulations Analyst of the Board. They told us that they were very optimistic about the passing of the law. Also, Linda told us that if the bill is signed they are going to need to find a way to know how many applicants they have. The method they are planning to use is to count the number of applicants who have sent their prove of passing Part I and II before December 31 2003. She recommended sending to the Board a copy of the passing scores as soon as possible since the applicant would have 90 days after the law is signed to probe that he or she has passed the two exams above mention. We are planning to go back to Sacramento in the up coming weeks hope you can join us.
