Hey all,

I'm developing a medical education initiative called Mediphors (http://mediphors.tumblr.com/). It's a concept being considered by the University of Chicago for development into an app! Here's your chance to get involved at the ground level.

Mediphors are medical metaphors -- a way to give a different context/perspective to a complex medical concept/condition. The eye is a camera. Angioplasty is like a toilet snake. Hormone therapy is fertilizer. Schizophrenia is a mental kaleidoscope. Etc. The use of mediphors not only improves patient comprehension/comfort but can also help STUDENTS/DOCTORS solidify concepts or communicate better. This is a push to make medicine more relatable. Mediphors are the "art of medicine."

Mediphors are never taught in classrooms nor written down...until now! I'm building a database of all the mediphors you hear on the wards and the ones you develop yourself when you're trying to remember/explain various medical concepts. It's like a medical "urbandictionary" or "rap genius."

Your help in accumulating mediphors will convince the university to consider the development of the app. PLEASE HELP BY SUBMITTING MEDIPHORS! Click on the top right corner and start adding your own. This is just a gallery for now. Comments welcome.

All mediphors will be attributed to their authors during their importation into the app. We are exploring financial opportunities to create representatives from each medical school to potentially include this into curriculum on physician-patient communication.

Thanks for your help!
