Has any one done electives through medclerkship?

Yes. Have taken 2 four week rotations. Was enrolled for 4 weeks New York and 4 weeks for Houston. Was very strong clinical experience. Suggest speaking with a physicians consultant. The doctors were able to give me proper planing to improve the CV and chances for Match.

But did you actually get responsibilities and did you participate actively in patient care?

Yes. These were hands on programs with EMR training, morning rounds, SOAP note, and physical exam practices. Great educational experience.

But did your SOAP note count towards the patient's file? Did the doctor have to come in and see the patient with you or right after you?
 
No these SOAP notes are practice notes. No SOAP notes will count towards the patient's file. It is very important to gain experience with EMR. You will always be under the watch of a supervising physician.

Well for American students, the SOAP notes are placed in the patient's file, and they are given actual responsibility. What you're describing just sounds like an Observership with some additional training.
