Hi everyone,

I will be applying for Med-Peds this fall and am interested in international health.

Are there any programs that support international rotations or support or tracks? I have read something about U MN, any others?

Thanks! :)

Also, Mt Sini has a very big International Focus and even has options for you to complete an MPH while in the program.

I know lots of folks there-- they've rebranded the program to be a global health residency. MPH courses are integrated into the curriculum. It's their feeling that med-peds is the specialty best-suited to international health, so the institution has dedicated the residency towards training people well in it.

Of course, that's not to say that you won't receive standard (above average) Western tertiary medical training and you can't still go on to be an interventional pediatric cardiologist or cystic fibrosis specialist if you so choose.

The residents there are pretty wild about the program, FWIW.

Univ of Minnesota has global health tracks for both the IM and peds residencies (I think med/peds can choose either, or can combine the 2 tracks), and offers a comprehensive (2 month long) global health course once a year that residents can take for free during elective time.

How competitive are these programs does anyone know? Does anyone have stats for some of these programs? Also, are there any programs with these international focus that have average stats (not SDN average, but really average)?
