MD option in Dental School

Hi all.

I was wondering if someone could explain to me what the purpose/benefit is of having/being able to obtain an MD degree in addition to the DDS is. Is the sole purpose to be able to do specialties like OMFS?

You obtain the MD degree as part of some OMFS residencies. You don't obtain it while you are still in dental school.

Unless you go into Novas DO/DDS degree which is 6 years

Ic. So is there any real benefit to it? Aside from the two letters?

The way I see it no. It would probably give you a leg up on OMFS residency though
