It would help if you provided a list of pros and cons.

I would suggest VCOM since there have been complaints about LMU in the past.

Like someone said below, make a pros and cons list.

I’m going to LMU (Harrogate) and the students have been nothing but kind and transparent. You can join the LMU GroupMe and ask if you can speak to an OMS2 or 3. There’s someone in thread that you can PM and they will answer your questions.

I know people have other concerns but VCOM has MANDATORY classes which was enough for me to be turned off. They have a camera that records you walking in/out to take attendance. It was too much like Big Brother to me. Not to mention my interviewer was horrible but that’s a me thing.

Here’s another thred. LMU Knoxville vs VCOM Carolinas (consensus is to avoid LMU)

VCOM CAROLINA
Pros
  • Nice campus and facilities
  • More reseaxh heavy?
  • Family oriented /close cohort
  • Cheaper
  • Convenient housing
  • Supportive faculty Dean is very involve
  • Mentor system with specialties
  • Better board pass rates (97%)
  • Rotation sites at good hospitals with residency’s and reseaxh
  • More hands on In the beginning
  • Frequent breaks after blocks
Cons
  • Mandatory attendence 8-5 m-f (can skip up to 30% of lecture in a block)
  • Frequent exams (2-3 fifty question exams a week plus practicals)
  • Shorter summer first year
  • Not P/F
LMU-KNOXVILLE
Pros
  • In a city
  • Good camaraderie
  • Better board prep ( board style questions on exams, uworld subscription…)
  • Supportive faculty
  • Have networked with more students who say they “love” their experience (always with a. Grain of salt though, lol)
  • Good accreditation
  • More diverse match list specialty wise
  • Closer to home (7 hr drive))
  • Opt attendance
Cons

  • Housing is less convenient/more expensive
  • Rotations are more sporadic and (maybe) not as good
  • Building/facility not as nice ( just a old office building that they renovated… technology and stuff still there)
  • More expensive ( not by much)
  • White coat given at the end of second year
  • Didn’t get to tour to have a “gut” feeling
  • Less hands on in the beginning
  • Not pass fail --
Summary: both seem great, but I’m just not sure which one is better in the long run and overall. I never really got to tour LMU, which is why I’m more hesitant.

VCOM since it’s cheaper and rotation sites are good. A 7 hr drive is not really closer to home in a meaningful way.

VCOM-Carolina. More established, cheaper, and LMU has had accreditation issues.

Dcom has good rotations just some are not good and they have a lottery system (80% get one of their top three)

So is the mandatory attendance and frequent exams worth going to VCOM over DCOM?
