I want to delicate this thread to post 21AA+ scores so that newcomers can learn about their breakdown. This list is not to make anyone feel bad.

give back to sdn by...
1) create a thread including your score and breakdown (as detail as possible)
2) post your thread to "List of DAT scores (21AA+)" thread
3) your contributions will help others prepare for the DAT

Sign me up if you want to. I don't have a breakdown thread so I'll just do it here.

PAT: 22 (93.8)
QR: 21 (97.6)
RC: 22 (93.2)
Bio: 20 (91.8)
GC: 20 (86)
OC: 20 (84.4)
TS: 20 (91.3)
AA: 21 (97.2)

I started studying about a month before, but it helped that I had already read the Kaplan guide from a year previous when I took the test for the first time. I reviewed what I had highlighted in the Kaplan guide and read, highlighted, and reviewed Schaum's Biology (1998). Most of my time was spent taking and retaking practice tests: 2 from the Kaplan guide, 3 from Topscore, 5 from Ace the DAT, and 5 from DATPAT. Generally, I went through one test a day (skipping the RC). Some days I spent 3 or 4 hours studying and others 10 or 12 hours, and especially in the last week I was studying closer to 10+ hours a day.

I made study sheets filled with facts and formulas that needed to be memorized, particularly those that I didn't know (well) which led to a missed question on a practice test. It helped to bring them with me everyday when I took the dog to the park. It felt like bonus study time. I didn't feel rushed and I think I retained more of what I did review.

I was shooting for a 23-25. In retrospect, I regret not having gone to the test center calm and confident from having aced all of the practice tests at my disposal, and that I didn't quit drinking coffee at least a few days in advance.

PAT (22): I don't remember much about the actual test. I know that the Topscore practice tests were the most challenging (even moreso than the actual one), but it helped to take the easier tests too, just to build confidence and become more familiar with the deductive logic/visualization needed in the key-in-hole section and others.

QR (21): I had this nailed down beforehand from all of the practice tests, but I didn't pace myself well enough. Warning to all of you about to take the test for the first time, or anytime: you need to be prepared to think fast and mark and pass any question that has the potential to stump you.

RC (22): I didn't formally prepare for this section. The first time I took the DAT I did better because I had quit coffee and because I had practiced reading with full focus. I think the best way to handle this section, contrary to what I've heard most other people say, is to actually read the article once through. If you've practiced reading without letting your mind wander, you'll be able to answer most of the questions without having to scroll and search, which is time-consuming.

Bio (20): I was excited to take this section because I had spent so much time studying it and had learnt so much. But I was stumped immediately by the first two questions and from then on I knew I was in trouble. . . . I hope you're lucky . . . ok, maybe it's not that bad. Even though it might be a difference of only a couple of right answers, it's probably a lot more difficult to get a great score than a decent one.

GC (20): I was disappointed by this score. Maybe I missed a few easy ones due to stupid mistakes because I can't remember being stumped by anything. Practice tests really helped me prepare for this one.

OC (20): I don't have any advice really. If you've taken organic chem recently, I'm sure you'll do fine.

Well I am very proud and honored to be able to finally enter these exalted ranks and walk into the DAT Hall of Fame. /sarcasm

But seriously, congratulations to everybody up there. And I would be honored to have my name up there too. Here's a breakdown of my scores:

...but seeing all these BEAST scores are making me consider retaking the test.
