Hi everyone,
What is the lifestyle (hours worked) of an Academic Radiologist? Any thoughts would be appreciated. thanks.

7:00 am or so if you're giving conference or an hour later if not. Go home at 5pm after reading out.

Some half days off for research/academic time or more if you have administrative duties.

Time off to attend lectures.

Sabbatical.



Of course, in return for so much time off, you are expected to train residents during readouts and to prepare lectures, as well as to publish.


Caveat: the hours could get worse with the ACGME considering allowing residents to take call after 12 months of radiology training. This could mean the attendings may have to cover for less resident call. The seniors need time to study to pass boards, or the program pass rate would suffer.

Also, there is a call from Emergency Medicine to have attending backup, either in-house or not, for 24 hours, so the hours could become worse if this trend becomes more widespread. :scared:
