I was watching an add the other day and I noted the person who claims to do them is a Board Certified Family Physician.... Is it common to train in those sort of procedures? How many practices thrive on this? I understand the medical community probably looks down on this.

What's the general opinion regarding these sort of practices?

It's becoming more and more common. One program faculty member recently told me that there has been a surge of interest in cosmetic derm among their residents, some of whom are buying lasers for their practices.

It's a cash cow, pretty much.

It can be...but it all depends on how good a job you do marketing yourself.

I've known people who tried it, but couldn't break even on the equipment costs. It's not one of those "if you buy it, they will come" kinda things.
