Hey everyone, I've posted my profile here before but this time I have a school list (post-MSAR) and I would appreciate your feedback!
MCAT: 510 (130/127/127/126) -took once
sGPA: 3.94 (steady)
cGPA: 3.94 (steady)
CA resident, Asian male, large public school
EC/Work (Non clinical) Experience:
· Americorps service (4 years, ~2000 hours total)
o Worked for 2 years as a corps member, 1 year as a team leader, and 1 year as a volunteer coordinator in Jumpstart, a service organization focused on early childhood literacy in underserved communities. First 3 years were Americorps affiliated, and the fourth year was non-Americorps but responsible for organizing major literacy events for Jumpstart. Went into preschool classrooms to implement early childhood curriculum while maintaining connections with the childrens' families. This Americorps service was a BIG part of my undergraduate experience and it mean't a lot to me to have gone through it.
· Peer academic advising (1 year)
o Worked at my school's student affairs office, responsible for providing one-on-one pre professional academic advising, primarily for bio students. Prepared academic and career workshops and provided counseling to undergraduate students.
· Peer Teaching Assistant (1 academic quarter)
o Led a couple cohorts of freshman bio students in their introductory seminar class- responsible for presentations and counseling students about academic affairs and student life
· Front desk secretary (~200 hrs)
o Volunteered as a secretary for an ICU unit in a local hospital, essentially a liaison between nurses and families looking to visit patients
EC/Work (Clinical) Experience: Paid/Volunteer
· Medical Assistant
o Responsible for scribing, back office & insurance work, patient intake/logistics, surgical assistance at a dermatology/surgery clinic
o Working full time this quarter and through the gap year
· Clinical internship (350 hrs)
o Volunteered at a hospital, working on basic clinical skills and providing support for hospital staff including bed/diaper changes, discharges, and patient transfers
· Physician shadowing (80 hrs)
o Shadowed PCP, whose specialty is internal medicine alongside family practice
Research:
· Worked in Alzheimers lab for 2 years, with focus in benchwork and molecular techniques
o Received $2500 in undergrad grants for a project focused on neuroinflammation- presenting poster at an on campus conference in a few months.
o Same project is part of a larger work, currently in publication process as a 2nd/3rd author
o Acknowledgement in previous publication for support work in that project
LoR's:
Two from science professors, and three from my service organization site managers and professors; LoR's should be good to go as far as I am concerned!
Here is my school list as of now. I am aware that there is never REALLY a "match" or "safety" school but I organized things based on median MCAT and GPA. 30 schools (all MD) on the list! Another question- should I add some DO schools to the list as well?
