Hello,

Considering the nuclear medicine pathway at my program with the idea to practice primarily NM afterwards. My main concern is job outlook as I see manyfold more job postings for neuro/breast/msk.

Any recent graduates who did the nuclear medicine pathway or NM fellowships post radiology who can weigh in with their job hunt experience?

Thanks!

There is a decent number of job options in academics, but many programs are small. As such they usually have 2-3 nuclear medicine attendings. If you are willing to move and aren’t geographically restricted, you will have many options.

In private practice, it depends on whether the practice covers a large hospital system with good nuclear medicine volume. The amount of nuclear medicine you read will depend on available nucs volume and the presence of nuclear radiologists with whom you will split coverage. 100% nucs jobs are very rare in private practice.

There are more jobs looking for neurorads, mammo or body subspecialists. Nucs is a bit than ped rads, but not in demand as much as the more popular subspecialties.
