We are moving so my wife can go to school. Both her parents and my parents have talked about pitching in about 10k (so a total of 20k) to help get those payments down to an affordable amount. The stipulation is we have to return the money when we sell the house after she gets out of school. Anyway my question is this. Will that kill us on her student loans? I think that the schools might look back and see that we payed about 20-25k down on the house and wonder why we didn't use that for something else. Anyway I am thinking that one of the most important things is to have a roof over our head and a payment that I can afford!!!! But on the other hand I don't want to kill my her chance at loans.

Unsubsidized federal Stafford loans are not based on need. You can have a million dollar home and six jaguars and still be eligible.
