I was reading a little bit more about MR guided focused ultrasound today and was amazed at the potential of such therapy. Check out the following website for a list of the potential procedures: http://www.fusfoundation.org/MRgFUS-Overview/what-can-it-treat

What I am really curious about is what role do you think IR will play as these MR guided procedures come out of development? Will they fall under the domain of radiologists or will other surgical subspecialists try to gobble them up?

Well IR is a pretty great specialty, it's probably be my favorite at this point. The procedure seems interesting and it will go to IR at first but in a few years, there will be a turf war and IR will lose. Love the specialty but they need to start controlling patients, otherwise they will continue losing patients. Heard of some Clinical IR residencies, you can check it out. Maybe that will change things.
