Hi,

I have recieved interviews from Tufts, BU, Case, and Temple. I haven't attended any yet. I was wondering if anyone who has had interviews from any of these schools can answer a few questions for me. What are the types of questions that they ask?

2. What are the formats of their interview (group or one on one)?

3. What type of students are they looking for(experience, etc.)? I dont have any experience in a dental setting, is this a big negative once i've already recieved an interview?

Thanks in advance.

Yay a fellow Canadian!!! First off, congrats on getting an interview, you should be very proud of yourself. I interviewed at Tufts, BU and TEmple and they were actually fun! (for me anyways) At Tufts, you interview one on one with a faculty member. During my interview, I was mainly asked about my volunteering and my hobbies....just stuff about yourself. The same happened at BU. Make sure you know what your weaknesses are and turn them into strengths!!! At temple, it's a different format. You get a 'group interview' with your group and a faculty member and a dent student. You basically get 5 minutes to talk about yourself, you hobbies, your motivation, etc. so use the time wisely. LUckily for me, I only had 4 other people in my group so I had more time to talk. The most important thing I can think of to prepare for an interview is to be honest. These people interview 100's of applicants a year...they know when people aren't telling the whole truth.
About having experience in a dental setting, I don't think it's necessary that you've worked in an office but it would give you something to talk about if you've at least shadowed a dentist (or other dental specialist) for a day. Having this experience would be most advantageous not only for your interview but for yourself as well. It's hard to know what a certain career is like until you've 'experienced' it to some degree. I hope this helps. Good Luck!

Hi,

I interviewed at Tufts, BU, Temple and UPenn. Tufts, BU, and UPenn were very similar, one-on-one with a faculty and if I recalled correctly, they asked similar questions such as
1. Why dentistry?
2. Your hobbies
So you want to convey to them that you are very genuinely interested in pursuing a career in dentistry and it is a well-thought out decision by YOU. Any activities that you have done which will demonstrate to them that you are manually dextrous, and of course, be yourself and relax....they are extremely nice and they just want to see what kind of a person you are. As for Temple, it was a group interview but it was only me and another prospective student. But because that was my first interview, I felt like I didn't perform as well. Just keep in mind to be sincere and relax. At this point, you have really good chance of getting in to schools that invite you for interview. Good luck and I am sure you will do just fine!!

Go Bear!!
