Interviews 2005 Match!!!

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
Just heard from Rush via email this morning. I think I'm going to decline, because I don't have any time left to head out to Chicago.
Thanks for everybody's help!

Hey use that for what it's worth. That means they read your Dean's letter and liked what they read. Whether you end up declining or not, that means your Dean's letter is good

what tha &^@#&& ! +pissed+

it's already Tuesday, 1.5 whole days after Dean's letter has been avail, and it's still all quiet on the western front...for me at least (also seems like it from the scarce replies on the interviews post).

How long do I have to wait from places that said they needed the deans before they send out invites? christmas?

good luck to all those going on interviews now/soon. :luck:

Since the Dean's Letter, I received two more interviews which makes a grand total of 20+ interviews AND 1 REJECTION from DUKE (b@$t@rd$). Hehehe.... I have a definite grudge against Duke now, first rejection from medical school and now residency.... hehehe... Believe it or not, I am still worried about getting accepted into a good program... I do agree that interview offers have been slow after the Dean's Letters as compared to when I initially handed in ERAS in late September... Good luck everyone and will someone out there pray for me...

Thanks Andy, I love how you can just find the positive in everything. :)

The anti-Duke vitriole on this thread is oddly very amusing. Coach K stinks!

Easy now. Coach K is an awesome coach as is his basketball team (Duke basketball fan here). The whole anti-Duke thing is specific to the pathology program...no need to bring basketball into this :p ;)

I'm curious, do you guys have a specific complaint regarding the Duke program? (Or is this just generalized bitterness?) Please share so those of us crossing over to the dark side to interview there can be forewarned. ;)

It is my understanding that it's a solid program with some well-known names, though my specifics are lacking. Any thoughts?

It's all good. Me, I'm just talkin smack. It's just that from reading the posts on this thread, Duke has been a little trigger-happy (like Vanderbilt) when dishing out rejections...that's all.

Hi! This is my first post, even though I have been behind the scenes for about a year. I thought it was time to join in ;) . Has anyone heard from USA-Mobile, ECU, or Tampa?

Interviews:
UT Knoxville
MCG- Augusta
U Florida- Gainesville
U Arkansas
East TN State (home)

I was also wondering if anyone has heard anything about Baptist in B'ham? I appreciate any info. Best of luck on the interview trail.

acparsons~
Hi, I am also waiting to hear from Tampa. I know they have downloaded my completed file, but still haven't heard from them. Sorry, can't help you more.

Kentucky by E-mail today.

OK, I thought I had a nice interview schedule all lined up when I get 2 offers:

NYU: I had already cancelled an interview date with them previously, then I get an email a couple of days ago inviting me again! I know there was the whole freeze on interviews thing there and I'm guessing that's why I got another. The email went on about how great NYU is going to be with new people and a heavier emphasis on research (by the way, I have no research experience). I have to say, the website for the Skirball Institute looks pretty cool, and I'm sure NYU is a good place (although I've heard not the best by any means), but again, HOW THE HELL CAN YOU LIVE IN NYC ON A RESIDENT'S SALARY???!!

LSU: got an interview from them but don't know jack about the program and so far haven't found any tickets to New Orleans that aren't crazy expensive, plus they haven't brought up anything about a free hotel stay

so that's where I am now

GOOD LUCK TO EVERYONE!!!!!!!! :luck: :luck:

Seriously.

Coack K is within the top 2 college baskeball coaches of all time.

That being said, I cannot stand Duke fans(they are extremely fairweather).

What will be amusing though is when Coach K leaves and the program dies out...

Still, Coach K is a pretty cool guy and a god among these parts. :D

Anyone hear from USC-LA County yet? They were waiting until Nov. 1 to send invites.

Answered my own question. USC by email.

You guys are fortunate. I have gotten 2 rejections so far (and expecting more). Duke and MGH don't like me I guess....

I have not heard from any programs at all since the dean's letter came out, except for U Wash, which I emailed myself. I don't know, I was expecting more of a wave of completion, either rejections or interview offers. But so far, nothing.

Just curious - did you get to see your Dean's Letter before it went out? We got to look at ours and proof it to make sure there were no errors.

I've gotten two rejections since the Dean's Letter came out. Yay.

Yes geddy, at our school, we were given the option of looking at our Dean's Letter, proofing it, and suggesting changes where necessary.

We were able to proof it for spelling and factual errors. We were not allowed to change anything else. All faculty comments were in there. . . Good, Bad, and indifferent.

I think I have a good dean's letter and I have only recieved one invite since they came out. I am thinking they are going through all the applications and all the deans letters to see that they dont miss someone they want to interview.

Yeah, when I went in to read my Dean's Letter, I was hoping it would be a bright spot in what was a pretty dull day. I left thinking, "bleh".

sandyworks,
i totally feel your pain...
I went this past ENTIRE WEEK w/o hearing from a single place. And mind you, this is AFTER I emailed UCSF, Iowa, and Baylor Houston asking them when I could plan on hearing from them esp since now my deans is avail (they had stated to me that they needed my dean's). Nilche, Nodda, Nothing since.
Hope this next week is Hugh Jass in terms of interviews.

questions for everyone on this post:

1) Has anyone heard from IOWA this past week?

2) Has anyone ever received a rejection from UNC?

Hey SLUsager, UNC rejected me a few weeks ago...

We should consider ourselves lucky. Some specialties are just now getting out their first set of invites.

I, too, received an UNC rejection quite a while ago.

This is my first post, but I've been lurking about for a month or so. I'm couples matching with someone matching in a much more competitive field. Thus I applied to like 50 programs (shotgun technique) - have received interview offers at about half so far. Notable invites include BIDMC, Cedar Sinai, UCLA, Iowa, Michigan, Emory, Vanderbilt, MUSC, UTSW, Cornell, Rush, UNM, Colorado and a smattering of others. I have cancelled my interviews at a few of these program already due to the couples matching thing. I was prepared for this and, although it is disappointing, it is why I applied to so many programs. So anyway, does anybody know anything about MUSC - I've heard the residents are happy but not much else. Also does anybody know anything about the program in Phoenix. Because I've applied to so many programs - I haven't done the research on a lot of them and will undoubtedly have questions as the interviews come in. Thanks for any help you guys can offer and good luck to everyone...

Since the Dean's Letter I heard from U Maryland and Brown. I think I'm gonna call UCSF again. I haven't heard anything from U Penn after e-mailing the program coordinator and leaving a message with the program director
.

i just heard from one of the first year residents here that he was getting offers as late as january and early february! there is absolutely NO way i'm waiting that long to figure out what my ranking list looks like. i think that's just rude.

Invitation to Dartmouth, and rejections from U of Virginia and Arizona (man, I really must suck to get a rejection from Arizona, I mean, come on). Very pleased about the Dartmouth invite.

I am still waiting on. . .

Stanford
Utah
Washington University
West Virginia
Michigen
Hopkins

I am sure if I check my E-mail again I will . . . . . . .

Score, got one from arkansas

Damn. . .

Rejection from Washington.

Utah told me that they have filled all their interview spots. But of course people might cancel.

yay! finally someone has heard from u of maryland. I was almost thinking they were going to do all of their selection outside the match... Georgetown is the last one i'm waiting for...

I was also scratching my head after being rejected outright by Arizona. I didnt think their cut-offs were that high especially since I got invites from Dartmouth and Mount Sinai. A lot of this is a crapshoot... or at least I havent figured it out yet...

Invitations to Portland and Northwestern-Chicago today!!! Still stinging from the Duke rejection. This is nerve racking...

I emailed a few programs since the Dean's Letter came out - silence. You'd think if they were annoyed with that, it would give them even more reason to punt you on the spot. But nope, no news either way.

Portland is beautiful. So very green even in January!

Damn! Interview season is expensive! Got two credit card bills in the mail today...one for $2955.77 and the other for $1023.22.

I'm gonna have to live on ramen noodles for the next 2 months. Maybe Kroger will have a special, 8 packs for a buck!

I didn't know you could put the women from the escort service on a credit card! Next time, pay cash.

Wow, you're pretty witty tonight. You don't seem to be running out of 'em tonight.

BTW, the strippers at the bachelor party a few weeks ago was paid in cash only. :D

Yeah, this is turning out to be ridiculously-expensive. I remember how I used to naively think that I could bunch regional interviews together, thereby saving on airfare. Haha, such innocence.

totally stormjen, this whole bunching interviews together geographically is a hoax! Shenanigans! I'm jumping all over the country at random times. I'm making 3 separate trips to California which is down right ridiculous

the airfare isn't horrible as I thought (I've been able to keep airfare costs at about $200 or below) in light of the fact that airfare has been increasing recently. it's the hotels that get ya!

Ouch! That really sucks.

I've been dreading bills lately. They are adding up so ridiculously.

I have received another rejection today and no invitations since the last invitation two days after the Dean's Letter. The count so far is 3 Rejections... hehehe... Haven't heard from several programs still. I think if they haven't offered you an interview already, it is more than likely going to be a rejection. Although some people have had success in getting interviews post-Dean Letter... I wonder what mine said, the office lets me look at them but I really didn't care what it said... maybe I should look.
