Thanks Kral! Yeah I have definitely gotten most of my interviews post-Thanksgiving...weird.

Does anybody know if the U Minnesota dates are different for Derm vs Med/Derm? It seems a little odd that I would be on the waitlist for the 1/8-1/9 dates but not the 1/15-1/16 dates?

Starry Skies - As for the Minnesota wait list, I was told there were dates for derm interviews available on 1/8-1/9 and 1/15-1/16, but perhaps they're all full on 1/15-1/16. still haven't heard if the 1/8-1/9 date has opened up yet or not. Was rejected by the med-derm program, so maybe that's the difference?
 
Anyone know anything about Jackson Memorial/University of Miami?

Best to show up an hour late, but when you do, you should be drunk. Say you were drinking under the bridge with your old war buddies and just lost track of time. This typically goes over really well. I think this was suggested in the old Iserson's, but was omitted in the most recent version because it had been overused to the point where it was no longer appreciated. I feel enough time has passed that you're safe now to employ this age-old tactic.

I hear everyone there wears thick wool coats in the middle of summer and that several staff members like to derm in the nude, but mostly just from the waist down. It's not uncommon to see an attending in a blinged-out sheepskin parka, wearing nothing below the belt. It helps them sense the intention of the lesions better, using a now arcane tactic known to the derm elders simply as "he who senses deeply pigmented nevi with his nuts." Many scoffed at these old ways, but they are alive and well in Miami. Most PGY-2s aren't allowed to use this approach. It's too advanced, and most are forced to wear underwear at the very least. There is a fair amount of complaining, but most make due.

So yeah, Miami is a lot like that.
 
Any opinions on Jefferson? I hear they take mostly their own students. Not sure if I should attend this interview vs Loma Linda. Thanks
 
So for the last two weeks I have been getting nothing but rejections. I am stuck at 8 offers, 7 of which I can go to. I am praying that is enough. I am supposed to be in Philly today for a TY interview, however, the damn blizzard cancelled my flight, so instead I've been on hold with USAIR for the last 2 hours, which is almost as fun as sitting at the airport. If I miss any derm interviews due to weather I am going to have an MI. I wish everyone good luck on their interview travels...i think they should switch interview season to summer :)
Oh, and anyone who wants to cancel their interviews....I could definitly use a few more. Pass them this way!

Sorry about the flight, derm me. That's incredibly painful. I think we're all praying for good weather for the derm interview season. Good luck. Maybe you'll be able to reschedule the TY- some of them interview in Feb.

This is a horrible situation and I am very sorry for you. I too ran into a simila problem a week back or so when that nightmare blizzard hit the midwest. Missed a TY interview (my top choice) and almost missed a derm interview. Weather sucks it. Seven is ample interviews to make it into derm. I know of three people who made it in with less.

I had 7 myself last year and was fortunate enough to match. I know reading thru the past match paperwork, it seems like 8 is the magic number. I was greedy and hoping to hit double digits. :p

i'm sorry to post here, but I've tried contacting the PC and no luck...

Does anyone know when I can expect to be done with the interview day at Washington Hospital Center? I have an interview the next day in a different city and would like to make the pre-interview dinner for that one. Thanks!
 
I had 12 last year, and ended up at one of the programs I rotated at (and loved!). More often than not, you will match somewhere you are well-known -- for example, you home program, rotated program, or program where your letter writer(s) is best friends with PD of one of the programs you've interviewed at.

There is a "sweet spot" for # of interviews, but in the end, it only takes one. :D
 
My flight got cancelled to the only interview I've received so far... there was a blizzard over NYC and all flights were cancelled for today and yesterday... so, I believe lots of other people cancelled... is it common for programs to reschedule applicants?
 
Does anyone know whether they meant Thursday 14 and 21 for Albert Einstein College of Medicine?

First of all, I am so sorry Knight. I really hope they reschedule for you. Do you have any connection to the PD?....Maybe a personal email would help?

Wow, good catch Laxman! I got this invite today too. The more likely scenario to me is that the dates are right and the days are wrong (i.e. it's friday the 15 and 22). I could be wrong though.

On a somewhat related note, does anybody have an opinion on Albert Einstein vs. Loyola? One has to get the axe.
 
University of Chicago - Rejection, via email 12/21.

I think after 12/25 hits I'll stop thinking new emails are interviews but who knows.

The weather has gotten in the way of every one of my interviews but hopefully won't stop me from making it to any in the next few weeks.

Exactly why I ask. If its the Thursday then I don't have to cancel.
 
Don't assume that interview offers stop after 12/25/09. A good friend told me he had only 2 interview offers before Christmas and received 15 after Christmas. FYI.

almost all programs have given out their interview offers - how many interviews does everyone have by now? i've heard # of apps have gone up this yr.
