Congratulations and best of luck!

I will be applying next year (Oh, how I wish I could fast forward through this year...) and am curious about Yale's program-- haven't seen it discussed too much here and only a single two-year-old review on scutwork. Would you mind posting your thoughts post-interview? Much appreciated-- P.

Yep...Yale hasn't been discussed much...all I could find on that program was here:

Granted many of the opinions in those threads are from people who just spent a day or two there interviewing. I don't think anybody from there has posted an in-depth review of their own program.

I just received an invite from the University of Iowa. I'm stoked!

Thanks, AM. I did see those links a while ago.

I know impressions are, of course, very subjective, but there has been some very insightful discussion from different perspectives of various programs on this board. It would be nice to have threads for more programs, although I guess that is what Scutwork is for... Perhaps we do need to have our own "PathWorks" forum with a dedicated residency review link to encourage more people to post. :) Oh, and of course one for "Dear LADoc", too! (Isn't time to dig another non-derm-path-related letter out of the mailbox?)

-P.

congrats you guys!
I didn't apply to any of those programs but STILL I applied to 16 and haven't gotten any invites from ANY of them :( I know, I know, it's still early but don't early birds catch worms? LOL!
I must not meet any step 1 cutoffs for early invites or something...

Yeah...my wife laughs at me 'cause I check my e-mail compulsively.

Oh well. Guess we play the waiting game, eh?!

i keep wondering if something is wrong with my email. but wouldn't i also see something in my eras message box? it's the school email so it's supposed to be free of all of the poxes and curses on other email programs.

BIDMC, by email only (no message in ERAS).

I think its time this thread gets stickied.

Just submitted last night, nothing uploaded but my app and PS. Anyone want to throw me a bone and interview me anyways?

No need, by the time it falls off the first page people will have started rank list 07 and match results 07.

Congratulations everyone! It's a beautiful thing seeing this thread grow. Villin, so far it looks like you and I have applied at many of the same programs. I got my invite from Stanford yesterday. BOOYAY (or is it BOOYAH)!!!:D :D :D It made the pain which was Step II CS:mad: , then driving home from Philadelphia at 1 a.m. with two very unhappy, very tired little boys, worth while.

I believe if you've received interview offers this early in the game, then you can say BOOYAY, BOOYAH, or anything else you have in mind. ;) (fyi: most say BOOYAH)

Cougarblue and Villin-
Are your apps complete (with the exception of MSPE, of course)?

University of Michigan
1/16
I'm hoping I'm not hearing from others because my LOR are still not in the system.
Keep 'em coming

My application was complete on 9/7. I just read my post from this morning, and realized that I have got to stop posting on two hours of sleep. Oh well, in that spirit, BOOYAY!::laugh: Here's to hoping that the  keeps on coming.

I used SDN extensively when I was going through the application process last year and was very appreciative of all the program reviews that were available. Now that I'm a first-year resident at Yale, it's probably a good time for me to pay back the favor since I know there isn't much current (or accurate) information about my program available. I'll post it in a separate thread later tonight.

Still NONE! :(

Keep ya head up...I got an email from Michigan saying they are sifting through their 150 applications that they are considering for interview.
Haven't heard back from some of the other programs I've applied to that other members from this forum have obtained interviews from...

I'm sure there's some method to programs' madness!

Offer from Brigham and Women's Hospital, both by email and in the myeras message box. :D

Brigham by email and eras, as well

any one hear anything from Wash U. They just finally dowloaded my eras stuff today. Anyone know when they generally offer interviews?

Congrats on the Brigham invites. I wish that I could afford to live in Boston with a family. Palo Alto is a serious stretch, but Stanford offers some solid benefits.

I haven't heard of anyone here, (there are seven of us applying to Path.), getting any information from Wash U. We have a number of attendings who trained at Wash U who scared me away from applying. I have no problem with working hard, but when all of the attendings who trained there say, "Well, you will be well trained, but frankly you may wish you chose something other than Pathology after the first two years," I take notice. Granted this is all second hand information, but part of the appeal of Pathology is how happy the residents and attendings are here.

I'm not sure how many of you applied to UVA, but after two rotations, (Hemepath and Surg Path), I have absolutely nothing but positive things to say about the program. All of the residents whom I have worked with are wickedly smart, but are also laid back and have gone out of their way to make my rotations a good experience. There is a very collegial atmosphere, and it seems that the attendings are working hard to make this a resident friendly program. From what I have heard through the grapevine, it sounds like UVA traditionally sends out their first batch of interview invites during the second to third week of October.

Let's keep the interview invites rolling!

Cleveland Clinic via email.:D

I didn't apply to WashU for this reason. My roomate has a friend that did path at SLU and said to avoid WashU at all costs!

Just submitted my application to 18 programs over the weekend. Got my first interview invite today at Yale....to be continued!!

if i remember correctly, last year michigan only filled 2/4 spots.... is this because not enough people were interested in their program or michigan didn't think there were enough quality applicants or what? just curious... you would think if 150 people apply they could fill the 4 spots....

Actually, they filled 3 out of the 6 slots in the match as 3 spots were reported unfilled when the unfilled list was revealed on Black Monday (i.e., the Monday before Match Day). I was shocked to learn this. I do have my own hypothesis as to why this happened...but I will not speculate here (they do have a new chairman...but I am not sure what influence he has in the whole interviewing/ranking process). I'm sure there were plenty of quality of applicants and I believe the program would be smart enough to devise a rather lengthy rank list. Let's see how things go this year before we make any firm conclusions. It is definitely a possibility that what happened last year was some random aberrancy...there are always good programs that for some random reason just don't fill in a particular year...but ends up being an isolated event.

I think it was a confluence of things, including some faculty turnover as well as an overemphasis on trying to recruit researchers, and also not interviewing enough people. There is no reason to avoid the program though, the new leadership is firmly in place and there have been some changes, the vast majority beneficial, to the residency program. It's a great program and the faculty here are outstanding. The new AP director is reason alone to train here.

While I wait (impatiently) for invites, I have noticed a bump in the amount of junk (read: non-interview invites) email sent out by my administration and classmates. There is nothing more disappointing than seeing 6 new messages all being related to proper handwashing technique, the "wearing of open-toed shoes in the hospital", or a combination of you not washing your hands and wearing open-toed shoes simulatenously. The only saving grace was an email broadcasting a happy hour. Anyone else experience this phenomenon? Dammit.

I'm actually more worried about an invite accidentally getting filtered to my spam folder or me accidentally deleting it in the morning email sweep. I found myself wading through the Viagra-for-hot-transgendered-donkey-anal-sex emails from Therefore S Botulism in hopes of finding an interview email I missed

The funny thing is, I now check my yahoo mail acct (including the junk folder), even though I know I didn't give the address to ERAS. I have definitely become more OCD the last couple of weeks re:email.
