Hi all,
This is just a post to get an idea of which programs have already sent out interviews for Interventional Cardiology, so that the rest of us can make decisions on choosing from programs in which we have offers without feeling guilty that we didn’t wait for X or Y program. I think the more input we have, the more useful the thread will be. Any info on expected dates will also be useful for decision making especially given that there is no match.
So far I have heard of the following programs (in no particular order) offering interviews:
1. Detriot Medical Center
2. MGH
3. Mayo
4. University of Arkansas in Little Rock
5.?Scripps (not sure)
6. Baystate in Springfield Massachussets
7. Mount Sinai in Miami
And from what I have heard the following programs are not interviewing as they have filled
1. Vanderbilt
2. Uni of Oklahoma
3. University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics Program
4. University of Texas Southwestern Medical School Program
5. Baylor College of Medicine Program, Houston
6. Baylor College of Medicine/St Luke's Episcopal Hospital Program
7. Uni of Florida at Gainesville
8. UC Davis
9. Texas tech
10. Uni of Vermont
11. Uni of Chicago
12. ?? Wash U at St Louis

Recieved rejection from Cleveland clinic.
Got interview call from Sr Elizabeth Boston. Have not heard from any other programs. Also have heard Vanderbilt still has one position open.
Could anyone update about St Elizabeth program? No info on website. How strong is the program? Is Lawrence Garcia, current program director (PVD guy) leaving?
Thanks.

Which NYC programs have already sent out interviews so far? Columbia, NYC and St Luke's Roosevelt are the names I saw on this thread, any more updates?

Hi all,
Mt Sinai NY sent out love letters after Valentine's day! Congrats to those interviewing.
Those who are keeping the thread alive and contributing, thanks for the good work. I have heard some indirectly about some programs and would be good to have confirmation from someone so that I can add them to the list:
Already interviewing or sent invites:
University of Utah
University of Kentucky
University of Colorado
Brigham
Cooper,Camden
Those who are reading and have invites, it wouldn't affect your chances anyway to respond and may help others make a decision earlier and may be even reduce the competition in the remaining programs.
Thanks

Geisinger hospital, PA sent out interview invitations last wk.

Does anyone know if Columbia in NYC is a 1 or 2 year program?
What are people's thoughts on the two year programs?

Rush and cornell have filled their spots. For Columbia, NY is first year for coronary and second year to choose between structural or peripherals.

It all depends on what is offered in that second year. Some programs have a second year dedicated to research, which is great if that's your thing. Some have a second year because the volume is too low for one year. Some have one to milk an extra year of cheap labor out of fellows. My feeling is that there are only a select few programs that have a second year that offers truly unique training. Also, you have to be careful of the programs in which the second year is not guaranteed. Because in that first year, you will get zero hands on experience in complex cases since you have a senior fellow who will want to do all of those. If for whatever reason you don't end up staying for that second year, then you will have had a diluted experience.

Columbia is structured to be a 2yr program and it is expected that you will say for two years. But if the relationship is not mutually beneficial, either you or them can opt out f the agreement after 1 year. The first year is dedicated coronary and the second is either structural or peripheral. The structural year includes everything except TAVI, which requires a dedicated third year in which you are the the valve fellow and are the primary operator in valve deployment. From what I have heard, the peripheral year is fairly low volume and the fellows double or even triple scrub on most cases. From an academic perspective, it would be difficult to find a better program. Being affiliated with CRF, you will have endless research opportunities.

I think intcards explained it very well, not all program are offering structural training year. Just to add, following are the programs offering 1 yr training in structural heart interventions training after completion of Interventional cardiology fellowship.

Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, MA
Lenox Hill Heart and Vascular Institute, New York, NY
Massachusetts General Hospital, Boston, MA
Mayo Clinic, Rochester , MN
NorthShore University Health System, Evanston, IL
Rush University Medical Center, Chicago, IL
Swedish Medical Center, Seattle, WA
University of Kentucky College of Medicine, Lexington, KY
Vanderbilt University, Nashville, TN
William Beaumont Hospital, Royal Oak , MI

Rejection from Arkansas :(

Did anybody receive communication (Interview or rejection) from Brown University, RI, Lenox hill NY and Mount Sinai NY program?? Thank you.

Brown has filled 3 out of 4 spots internally and hasnt sent out interview for the 4th spot yet. Lenox Hill also reviewing application for their 4 spots. Mount sinai sent out interviews for their 5 spots.

Thank for the update. Lenox hill said they not gonna interview before May, same for LIJ-northshore. DO you know when did the Sinai, NY sent out interviews? Thanks

Looks like most of the programs are getting filled by inhouse candidates this yr. Good luck to those getting interviews.

yup, same here.. also rejection from columbia, NY

Hey Guys, I know some of you or your colleagues may have accepted the fellowship position at own institutions or other places. Congratulations for that but would suggest you guys to cancel pending interviews so that others get invited.

Updates from Johns Hopkins and Temple stating that they are reviewing the applications

Wash U, St louis filled their 2 spots

Does anybody know if UMIAMI offered positions after The interview¿

Hi all,

Thanks for the great information. Would it be possible to list the interview dates in addition to the programs? I am planning to apply in the following interview cycle (2013 - 2014) and would like some some guidance about how to schedule my rotations/vacation weeks then. I am particularly interested in Midwest programs however any assistance/guidance in general would be greatly appreciated!
