Internal Medicine Residency Interviews 2010-2011

Instead of the constant, semi-useless talk of program rankings, etc., I thought we might like to start an official thread for 2010 interview invites, so that we can all be up to date as to which programs are sending out invites when, dates offered, etc.

How do you all want to format this? I have no idea. Plus I don't currently have anything to contribute

It begins . . .

The format that seemed to work fairly well was have a running list in alphabetical order, like this:

Beth Israel Deaconess: Fred, Sally, Dave
Brigham and Women's: Sally
Massachusetts General: Dave
University of California, San Fransico: Fred, Dave

When you get an invite, check the list, copy and paste the list into a new post and if the program that offered an interview is not on the list, add them and then place your name behind them. If on the list, simply add your name.

Assuming the above was the running current list a sample post would look like this:

Hey guys, I just got an invite to University of Minnesota. They are offering interviews on Tuesdays and Fridays starting at the end of October until mid December.

Beth Israel Deaconess: Fred, Sally, Dave
Brigham and Women's: Sally
Massachusetts General: Dave
University of California, San Fransico: Fred, Dave

And on a similar thread in other speciality forums, no one put names, just the interview dates. Simply wondering - what information is to be gotten from who got interviews at which place, unless we know that applicant's qualifications so a guess can me made as to what the program is looking for?!

How do we accept an interview invite? Do we respond through our personal email to the email address they give us? And what do we say, like "we want this date or something?" I just don't want to offend them in any way.

Very simple, they send you a short form with the invite and a list of dates to pick from. Return to the email they furnished. I sound like an expert with only one invite so far!!!

If you want to do a separate thread with dates or include that info here, I don't see any reason why we can't...

The utility of this thread IMO, is that I can see what schools are giving out interviews when. For example, I applied to UAB as well, and since I see that someone else got an interview already and I haven't gotten one, I can maybe draw some conclusions there...or maybe not, who knows, this is just for fun.

Unfortunately I think for us at this point, the time to see "what a program is looking for" is largely gone; we are what we are now, and we'll just have to apply and see if a school likes what they see in us or not.

Hey guys, I'm adding programs in for my girlfriend, who just got one from UNM today. As I've seen on our Peds thread, it seems to be easier to not only alphabetize programs, but to also categorize them by STATE (for those of us that are more geographically inclined). If there's no interest in this format, go ahead and ignore this comment

I'm assuming everyone that has listed so far is categorical... most people who are doing a pre-lim medicine year are going into another field and likely on other forums.

It'd make more sense to just have pre-lims designate, not all categoricals.

I did not get a pre-invite email, just one with an invitation to interview and their available dates.

re: application completeness, I had 3 of 4 letters in and my school doesn't do transcripts until Oct. 1.

For those of you with interview offers already, were all of your documents in and downloaded by the programs prior to their decision/offer? I ask because some of my LOR's are not in / uploaded yet, even though the programs have all of my other documents (transcripts, app, personal statement, photo, ...). I'm hoping it won't hold me back too much, since its out of my hands for the most part. Thanks.
