Intern year is terrible

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
One month down!

This year aint so bad so far. Granted, I'm doing a TY (a former super cushy one which was raped by the new work hour restrictions...although its still better than any prelim med program). Its all about just putting your head down, shutting up, and getting what you need done on your patients...and counting down the days until rads residency begins. But seriously, the expectations for a new intern were pretty much on par with a starting 3rd year med student.

Good morning everybody.

I read all your posts and I notice that the opinion is divided.

I am an Italian student, I am going to attend my last year before graduating in medicine and surgery in july 2012 in Italy.

I would like to do my specialist training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology abroad.
I have to make a choice between UK or US, but I haven't any element.

Do you have any advice for me? Thank you.

Kind regards

Federica

The US system is shorter albeit much more intense. If you can deal with the intensity, then I say the US system. However, many would say that the UK system is much more humane.

If you opt for the US system there are a ton of hoops to jump through (EFMG, USMLE step 1, 2 and 2CS) not to mention the cost with applying.
