Anyone?

Is there a push to make CC shift work?

I did my acting internship at our affiliate community hospital's MICU where each patient pretty much had their own private intensivist (and PCP/consultants who wrote orders) who would really show up just once a day to see how things were going and then expect us to call them with any issues. When I was talking to the clerkship director, she let on that as of next year they may switch to a closed ICU system with all those intensivists forming one group effectively practicing in a shift-work paradigm with one of them on days and another on nights. Resident coverage from the university as usual, with the occasional AI. So, it looks like some places are converting already.

great article...thanks for the post.
